Bigger & Better than CoolCat?!

Public library users in Victoria will be able to search all public libraries across the State by accessing just one website.

The new Library Link can instantly tell them where an item can be found and have it sent to their local library for collection.

Furthermore, the website grants Victorians unprecedented access to the 10 million books, CDs and other items in the State's public library catalogues.

Library Link covers 97 country libraries in the north and west of Victoria, and 42 metropolitan libraries. Libraries in the City of Port Phillip will join the system this week.

The website is http://www.llv.net.au.

Australian Dictionary of Biography online

Australian Dictionary of Biography (ADB)is now available online via the ANU website so do have a look http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/. You can search by surname, occupation or author. The beauty of the online version is that you can also use the Advanced search features to find entries of interest. This allows you to find everyone who was born or died in a specific place, or who shared a certain cultural heritage, religious belief or occupation. It is quite fun to see who you share your birthday with. The ADB entries are fully indexed and can lead you to original manuscript information held in archives and libraries around Australia, and also provides printed reference details. Work is currently underway to try to include a photograph of the individual with every entry.
